Content creation is the not-so-secret sauce of audience building.
However, some types of content have a greater impact on building an audience than others.
We've spent hours researching and observing these top creators in order to identify what these are (and steal them for you).
In today’s article: 8 types of content that make the biggest impact on building an audience. Let’s dive in!
#1 - Teach
The “teach” type of content (how-to’s, guides, step-by-step…) is probably the most common online.
This is because, if done well, it builds authority and credibility in your niche.
You need this type of content if you want to monetize your audience. The goal here is to make it actionable and easy to consume. Example:
#2 - Entertain
Educating people is great, but they also need to see another side of you. That's where entertainment content comes in.
But be careful! Entertainment content is not for everyone. It will feel forced and people will tune out if you post a meme just because you have to.
What I would do → mix teaching with entertaining 👇
#3 - Inspire
Creating inspirational content creates a connection with the audience on an emotional level. As people are more likely to share content that resonates on an emotional level, it has a high virality potential as well. Example:
But as with other types, you need to use it with a balance, or you’ll end up sounding too much like a guru.
#4 - Engagement
Engagement-based type of content is common for most creators. These are often used to increase attention to one particular tweet, but also to interact more with your audience. Types:
Asking a question to your audience is a great way to 1) get insights directly from them and 2) generate engagement so your tweet gets boosted
Some tips: don’t ask open-ended questions. To make it even easier for them, ask them to respond with one word or a very specific sentence.
→ AMA’s (Ask Me Anything)
Ask me anything type of posts are very popular. It’s a great way to get a bunch of questions (aka audience research) and also to connect with your audience.
→ AutoDM types of tweets
Tweets crafted to distribute a lead magnet or a digital product in exchange for the audience doing one action (like a reply or RT).
#5 - Curation
Who said you need original content to stand out online?
With more and more content being produced, the need for curators is also increasing. Find the signal among the noise and share it with your audience 👇
#6 - Personal story
Personal storytelling is the key to creating a brand that sets you apart from the competition.
Today's competitive market demands unique perspectives, experiences, and voices. A personal story allows you to connect with your audience on a deeper level than any AI can.
#7 - Analytical
Break down complex topics and make them more accessible to people. Or how someone did something specific.
These types of posts also build credibility around a topic. You demonstrate your expertise by analyzing what someone else did plus adding your two cents 👇
#8 - Build in Public
Show the inner workings of your business and your life. A behind-the-scenes look at your brand humanizes it and makes it more relatable.
The best way to do it is to be fully transparent. You share the wins but also the losses 👇
Mixing it all together
After knowing the types of tweets you can create, the question is: do you need them all? The answer is: it's up to you.
Pick 2-3 types of content and make those your main focus. After that, you can sprinkle others here and there, but more rarely. For example, you could do 👇
50% educational content
20% inspirational content
20% personal story content
5% engagement content
5% user-generated content
Decide what content resonates with you the most and start experimenting with it. Then optimized based on that.
