Create a one-time offer (tripwire)




The Tactic

If you have a newsletter and a digital product (ebook, course, templates…), you need to leverage one-time offers.

Here’s how they work:

  • Someone subscribes to your newsletter

  • Instead of redirecting that person to your regular, boring thank you page, you redirect them to an OTO (one-time offer)

  • This is a short landing page where you present your digital product

But here comes the twist: You offer them something EXTRA.

Something they can’t get if they access the product via the regular path.

The usual thing here is to offer a discount on the regular price or some bonus. Even better if you could tie it to some scarcity element (like "only available for the next 24h").

This is also known as a tripwire offer, and it’s smart for two things:

  • The money (duh)

  • Identifying buyers early on

If someone comes to your ecosystem for the first time as a buyer, that’s gold. You now know that person is willing to invest in you with little trust built.

So imagine what they’ll do once you build that trust with your regular emails.

🕵️‍♂️ How to steal it?

  1. Redirect to OTO: After new subscribers join your newsletter, redirect them to a compelling OTO page instead of a standard thank-you page.

  2. Offer Something Extra: Provide an exclusive incentive that's not available through the regular path, such as discounts, bonuses, or limited-time offers.
